Accton's Vice President of Research and Design Center, Mr. T. Y. Tsai, will accept the award on October 3rd, at Taipei's S.Y.S Memorial Hall.There are three key areas of concentration considered when determining the winners of Taiwan's 2005 National Invention and Creation Award:

• Number of patents received
• Patents' commercial value in the market place
• Company's incentive programs to employees that promote innovation
  

Between May 2001 and May 2005, Accton received a total of 311 patents from the Taiwan government.Intellectual Property (IP) for these patents focused mainly on both hardware and software areas for communication products and technology. Five patents that received close attention by the judges included:

• Method and apparatus for sorting and transmitting data packets
• Method and apparatus for enabling/disabling switch devices within a stack
• Method for traffic monitoring ports on a switch
• Dual-Band Planar Monopole Antenna with a U-shaped slot
• System and method using packet filters for wireless network communication.
