Hsinchu, Taiwan – Accton Technology Corporation (Accton hereinafter), (TAIEX: 2345) announces today the first standalone L2/L4 switch in its new switching product line, LEO. Based on Acute Communications silicon, a subsidiary of Accton Technology, the LEO family is the first L2/L3/L4 switches to enter the market using Taiwan developed silicon.
“Once a technology reaches maturity, it is common for Taiwan companies to begin producing a lower costing ASIC,” said David Myers, OEM Marketing Director for Accton Technology. “By working together with Acute Communications, Accton is now in the position to offer the lowest priced 10/100 switch solutions with gigabit uplinks to our customers. Over the past three years, Accto’s R&D has also proven our software capability within the switching industry, and will be able to port this over to deliver both stackable and standalone switches with a full set of Layer 3 features as well as Quality of Service.”
The LEO family is made up of four separate products.
- LEO L2/L4 Standalone- Available in May 2003
- LEO L2/L4 Stackable- Available in July 2003
- LEO L3/L4 Standalone- Available in June 2003
- LEO L3/L4 Stackable- Available in July 2003
Once installed, LEO can be remotely upgraded to provide stacking or Layer 3 functionality. Thus ensuring the end-users investment for future demands. Features provided with the LEO family of products include:
- Non-blocking 8.8 Gbps backplane
- 2.5 G Stacking backplane for up to 8 units.
- 802.1p Quality of Service
- IEEE 802.1ad compatible link aggregation
- Two populated gigabit Ethernet up-link ports
- Remote Management Protocol: SNMP,
- Security: IEEE802.1x with RADIUS network login, MAC address lock-down protection, TAC ACS + and Secure Shell
- Wire speed Layer 3 static routes for VLAN to VLAN communication
Accton also plans to release LEO in 48-port configurations at the end of Q3 this year. The LEO L2/L4 standalone unit will be demonstrated for customers at this years Networld+Interop show in Las Vegas.
