LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Engim, Inc., a leading developer of wireless LAN infrastructure silicon solutions, and Accton Technology Corp. (TAIEX: 2345, www.accton.com), the world’s leading ODM and supplier of choice for network systems vendors, today announced and demonstrated the EAP2638E, a new generation of multi-channel, multi-function access point that substantially expands the security, capacity and intelligence of Wi-Fi networks. Now available for OEMs, the EAP2638E enables rapid delivery of highly differentiated solutions that incorporate flexible, non-disruptive simultaneous support for services such as security and intrusion detection, advanced WLAN management and location determination, and ensures the quality and integrity of performance-sensitive applications such as VoWiFi.The EAP2638E is being demonstrated in Accto’s Suite at the MandalayBay in Las Vegas, Nevada, May 3-5, 2005.The MandalayBay is the host site for the 2005 Interop Conference.
With the availability of the EAP2638E, Engim and Accton are providing a new generation of Wi-Fi infrastructure by enabling access points to flexibly integrate a wide array of services that today typically require the installation of multiple hardware platforms. This All Services AP (ASAP™) capability enables AP solutions with the superior capacity, performance, and economics to best meet the needs of an increasingly mission-critical wireless network.
The EAP2638E, together with Engim’s All-Services AP (ASAP™) technology, is the first available multi-functional AP.Its unique multi-channel capabilities support any combination of advanced security and full-time intrusion detection, data-voice convergence, 802.11s mesh networking, enhanced WLAN management and location determination. The EAP2638E also “future proofs” Wi-Fi networks for large-scale client growth, and for the ongoing addition of new real-time, business-critical applications and mesh networking capabilities.Engim’s single-platform/multiple-services functionality eliminates the enterprise’s need for diverse products from multiple vendors, which can dramatically reduce WLAN equipment and labor costs, and simplify WLAN administration and management.
“The EAP2638E is an ideal foundation for a new class of enterprise-class access point solutions that can provide the ever-vigilant security, performance guarantees, intelligence and capacity to serve growing enterprise WLANs and offer broader arrays of strategic services and applications,” noted Dr. Ted Kuo of Accto’s Vice President of Advanced Technologies. “We are pleased to extend our strong partnership with Engim through this distinctly powerful platform, and enable network systems vendors to introduce highly differentiating solutions.”
Accton selected Engim’s award-winning EN-3002 – the industry’s first Intelligent Wideband WLAN chipset – both for its multi-channel capacity and RF monitoring, and for its unique, patented security and traffic management capabilities such as Wideband Spectral Processing. The key to intelligent broadband communications, Wideband Spectral Processing comprehensively captures and digitizes the available RF spectrum in real time, and intelligently isolates and mitigates RF interference, enabling huge gains in WLAN capacity.
The EAP2638E incorporates rich functionalities, providing an ideal platform for OEM innovation and differentiation. It incorporates support for:
- Multi-Channel Capacity: Simultaneous use of three 802.11b/g channels, enabling 162 Mbps. of WLAN capacity,
- Advanced Security: Support for integrated, non-disruptive “Always-On” Intrusion Detection capabilities; hardware-based 802.11i support, WPA2 support and 802.1x support,
- Enhanced WLAN Management: Continuous, non-disruptive WLAN monitoring of the 802.11 network and other sources of interference such as Bluetooth and Microwave ovens that can effect WLAN performance,
- WLAN Mesh AP: Leverage multi-radio capability of EN-3002, the EAP2638E can act as a Mesh Point, a Mesh AP, or a Mesh Portal, which is being defined in 802.11s ESS Mesh Networking Task Group, to form a dynamic wireless infrastructure to extend network coverage, and
- Data-Voice Convergence: Unique multi-channel capability and 802.11e support protects latency-sensitive and delay-sensitive VoWiFi traffic from being disrupted by bursty data traffic. In addition, multi-channel location determination streamlines VoWiFi roaming.
Engim President and CEO Nick Finamore concluded: “We are thrilled to be working closely with Accton, one of the world leaders in networking infrastructure, to deliver the EAP2638E.This first-in-its-class AP design combines Accto’s industry-leading software with Engim’s award-winning multi-channel security and capacity capabilities, to provide a uniquely secure and powerful enterprise WLAN infrastructure platform.”
