Hsinchu, Taiwan- Accton Technology Corporation of Taiwan (TAIEX: 2345, www.accton.com), global outsourcing partner for networking and communications solutions, today announced that it has successfully developed and demonstrated a new line of highly-advanced wireless LAN (WLAN) mesh networking products with the company’s Wireless Intelligent Transport Network, WITnet™, architecture.

Accton’s WITnet™ based WLAN Mesh product line for deploying wireless mesh networks will begin general availability to the company’s ODM customers in Q3, 2005.Built to conform to the 802.11s standard, Accton will ensure that WLAN Mesh product line moves with the standard as it evolves.

Actively involved in the development and promotion of the 802.11s wireless mesh networking standard from its beginning, Accton continues to drive the standard through its ongoing 802.11s involvement. The company’s belief in the viability and utility of wireless mesh networking has also driven Accton to work over the past two years developing advanced technology for WLAN mesh networking. The company has three patent-pending technologies that improve the efficiency, resilience, and security of wireless mesh networks.

“Mesh technology is poised to add to the reliability, reach and flexibility of Wi-Fi networks. Accto’s OEM customers will benefit from lower prices and faster customer adoption,” said J. Gerry Purdy, Principle Analyst at MobileTrax. “Many Wi-Fi mesh suppliers will benefit from their solutions. We also commend Accto’s participation in the 802.11s standard development.”

Great for deployment where large areas need to be covered and cable runs are impractical, wireless mesh networks operate without centralized access points.Instead, each Mesh AP accessing the network acts also as a transmission/access point, making mesh networks highly scalable and flexible.Their flexibility is enhanced by the fact that redundancy and intelligent routing are built-in: if a Mesh AP or a mesh link is down, traffic is routed to another, and transmitted to its ultimate destination by the most efficient path.

“WLAN based mesh networking will be a great solution for myriad networking scenarios,” said Dr. Ted Kuo, Accton’s Vice President of Advanced Technologies.”Accton’s WITnet™ architecture makes WLAN mesh networks efficient, secured, resilient and easy to setup and maintain whether around the house or across a college campus.”

Accto’s mesh technology will be available for customer sampling in August.
