Cloud Data Center Solution
High-speed, High-density, standardized OCP-compliant platforms
Accton is a leading provider of open hardware network fabric for cloud data centers and is also a prominent contributor to the OCP Networking Project. Accton’s experienced engineering team has developed a full range of Top-of-Rack (ToR) and spine switches supporting interface speeds from 1G, 10G, 25G, 100G, up to 400G. Also, Accton has developed the industry’s first open packet transponder for data center interconnection.
In addition to its switch hardware, Accton has developed a range of high-performance open server platforms for the data center. These servers and server appliances integrate computing, storage, and networking into a single device that can be configured for any number of applications. Being based on Intel® x86 communications hardware, these platforms are truly open. You can either install available operating system and application software for common tasks, or build a customized device to fulfill a specific function.
Data Center Switches
High density and high performance are basic requirements for data center ToR and spine switches deployed in folded-Clos architectures. Accton delivers OCP-compliant devices that meet the demands of data center operation with high-availability switches that support multiple 10/25/40/100/200/400G interfaces. Accton’s high-capacity Open Modular Platform (OMP) supports up to 512 non-blocking 100G switch ports in a chassis that simplifies cabling, lowers equipment costs, and reduces power consumption. The first 400G switch series allows significant bandwidth scaling in leaf/spine architectures with capacity increasing by four times that of 100G hardware. The new efficient 50 Gbps PAM4 designs are focused on delivering the highest quality with low power consumption, but at the lowest possible cost.
All Accton data center switches are designed in a flexible modular format that not only offers a choice in switch silicon and CPU, but also enables a shorter development cycle. Each switch design undergoes a rigorous engineering review process that increases reliability and ensures that products perform to their maximum capability. As cloud data centers evolve, Accton will be ready to deliver cost-effective, open bare-metal hardware that provides a solid investment for the future.
Open Packet Transponder with Coherent Optics
Accton has also developed the industry’s first modular open disaggregated packet transponder offering a high-capacity combination of 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) switching ports and 100/200 Gbps coherent optical interfaces. The coherent optical line cards and transceivers are specifically for data center interconnection and service provider backhaul. Coherent optics can send a data signal across different light polarizations, which enables more information to be sent through a single fiber. Digital signal processors (DSPs) at both ends of a link are used to compensate for chromatic dispersion and polarization mode dispersion, resulting in better performance with higher data rates that can run over metro and long-haul distances.
The Accton packet transponder supports eight line cards for both Analog Coherent Optics (ACO) and Digital Coherent Optics (DCO). The ACO cards accept pluggable CFP2 transceivers where the DSP functions are performed on the card, whereas the DCO cards have the DSP embedded in the CFP2 transceivers. The flexible mix of coherent optical interfaces allows a range of choice in packet transponder deployment.
Cloud Server Appliances
In addition to its data center switches, Accton has developed a number of high-performance servers, server appliances, and storage platforms, including hyper-converged systems that include significant amounts of computing power, storage, and networking all in one box. In particular, the “server-switch” platform includes the latest Intel® Purley Skylake CPUs in a dual-socket system supporting up to 28 cores (56 threads) per socket with high-speed NVMe and SATA SSDs.
These server systems deliver high-density computing capability for virtualization with high-speed and low-latency storage. To improve performance, there is the ability to offer acceleration through CPU offload to smart network interface cards. As computing, storage, and networking converge, Accton will continue to innovate high-capacity, scalable platforms ideal for the future of open software-defined infrastructure.
