Hsinchu, Taiwan – Accton Technology Corporation (TAIEX: 2345) (Accton hereinafter) announced today its Cable Modem product was found to be compliant with both the US standard, DOCSIS (Data over Cable System Interface) and European standard, Euro-DOCSIS. Accton is one of the few manufacturers in Taiwan to be certified by two world major standards. Hence, Accton is able to expand its cable modem market share and meanwhile increase OEM opportunities.
Euro-DOCSIS is the modified standard based on DOCSIS. Compared with DOCSIS, Euro-DOCSIS supports Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) which requires higher bandwidth.
Accto’s External Cable Modem is especially designed for the US and European markets, and targets SME (Small & Medium Business), SOHO and home users. This product provides both USB and Ethernet interfaces,allowsing up to16 users on-line at the same time. Also, the built-in power adapter iscompliant with worldwide standards Moreover, the compact case is designed for appeal and convenience, allowing you to stand it upright or flat.
As cable networks becomes more and more popular in the US and Europe, the demand in these countries will increase for Cable Modem as the prefered broadband solution compared to other territories. According to recent a market survey, worldwide broadband users will reach 1.5 million by the end of 2001, and this number will increase over five times,reaching nearly 80 million people by 2004.
