Accton announces the CSP-7551 server-switch appliance with dual 2nd Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors, Intel® Tofino™ programmable Ethernet switch ASIC, and up to four Intel® Stratix® 10MX FPGA cards

Hsinchu, Taiwan – December 09, 2021 – Accton Technology Corporation (Accton) (TWSE: 2345), a premier provider of networking and communications solutions, today announced the CSP-7551, a combination server-switch hardware appliance based on a foundation of optimized Intel® technologies.
As a leader in the design of open hardware platforms for cloud data centers, Accton identified the need for a highly integrated device that supports large and fast table lookups, high-performance computing, and predictable forwarding times. The CSP-7551 dual 2nd Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable processor platform can support up to 28 cores (56 threads) per socket with 8 DDR4 DIMM slots per CPU and flexible local storage options. The system includes 32 QSFP28 (100 GbE) network ports linked to a P4-programmable Intel® Tofino™ programmable Ethernet switch ASIC. In addition, the 2RU chassis accommodates up to four Intel® Stratix® 10 MX FPGA cards each with 8GB High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM) for extra-large tables that can support up to 32 million entries, or up to four PCIe cards that can support CPU offload and other functions.
The Accton CSP-7551 is designed to give cloud service providers the ability to handle increasing traffic loading and computing requirements. With its server-grade computing and hardware-enhanced security capabilities, high-speed P4-programmable switching, and FPGA acceleration, the CSP-7551 can power through applications that require fast large table access, virtualization, and network offloading and forwarding. Additionally, the hardware platform is completely open, running the SONiC operating system that allows application software to be containerized in separate Dockers.
The highly flexible architecture of the CSP-7551 server-switch enables the system to be configured for various functions, such as load balancing, security firewall (including DDoS attack prevention), 5G User Plane Function (UPF), or as a cloud gateway for virtual private clouds.
For example, the CSP-7551 is ideal as an L4 server load-balance accelerator in a cloud data center. The load balancing function ensures that data center network traffic is evenly distributed across multiple servers so that users experience a consistent service. The P4-programmable Intel® Tofino™ programmable Ethernet switch ASIC of the CSP-7551 enables packet parsing and forwarding to be fine-tuned for load-balancing, while the high-performance compute capability can handle all the complex packet processing. With up to four Intel® Stratix® 10MX FPGA cards, the server-switch has the resources to maintain large connection tables, which can scale to handle tens or even hundreds of millions of traffic flows. By connecting the CSP-7551 to the data center leaf fabric, the device can completely replace load-balancing racks and deliver improved performance at a lower CAPEX and TCO.
Charles Tso, Director, R&D Center at Accton said, “The Accton CSP-7551 server-switch system delivers more flexibility for data centers. Being able to monitor and control packet processing and update protocols in software to deliver customized performance for specific workloads at scale is not only suitable for Layer 4 load balancing, carrier grade NAT, and firewalls, but it is also ideal for VXLAN gateways, 5G user plane gateways, virtual switch offloading, and peering routers.”
“We welcome the introduction of the Accton CSP-7551 server-switch powered with Intel® Tofino™ programmable Ethernet switch ASICs, 2nd Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors, Stratix® 10 FPGAs and the Intel® Ethernet Controller E810,” said Remy Chang, Senior Director, Barefoot Switch Division at Intel®. “This highly integrated design developed through collaboration between Accton and Intel® will help transform data-intensive applications in the data center and at the edge. We are pleased to see Intel® technology fuel this innovative solution.”
