Accton announces the SAF6101I Edge Server, supporting the newest Intel® Xeon® D processor for high-throughput applications

Hsinchu, TaiwanFebruary 28, 2022Accton Technology Corporation (Accton) (TWSE: 2345), a premier provider of networking and communications solutions, today announced the SAF6101I Edge Server, an open network appliance based on a foundation of optimized Intel® technologies.

Accton’s SAF6101I Edge Server is an open network appliance based on the new Intel® Xeon® D-1700 processor. The Edge Server integrates the latest Intel® technology that enables crucial capabilities for key markets such as uCPE, SD-WAN, Security, and more. These technologies include HT, TME-MT, SGX, PFR, CBnT, RDT, VMD, VBMI, VAES-NI, VCLMUL, SHA-NI, and VPMADD52.  The SAF6101I is also able to adopt key enabling software, such VPP, DPDK, OpenSSL, and IPSEC. With the Intel® Xeon® D processor integrating Intel® QuickAssist Technology, the Edge Server can provide security offloading from the processor for a broad range of algorithms, providing very high throughput (for example, 20 Gbps crypto). The CPU’s two 25G/10G Intel® Ethernet Technology ports provide high-speed connections to the network and the onboard eight 1G Ethernet ports can connect to individual subnetworks or client devices.

The SAF6101I Edge Server includes the following key features and benefits:

  • Intel® Xeon® D-1700 processor with 6 x DDR4 RDIMM memory slots, maximum 2933 MHz, 384GB
  • Local Storage Options: 1 x eMMC, 1 x 2.5″ SATA SSD, 1 x M.2 PCIe/SATA SSD
  • 2 x 25G SFP28 ports, 8 x 1000BASE-T RJ-45 PoE ports
  • 2 x PCIe slots, Gen. 4 x8 for add-in cards (up to 225 W power)
  • 1 x OCP 3.0 SFF slot for network interface expansion
  • 3 x M.2 slots
  • Wireless Options:
    • 5G NR M.2 module, with 4×4 MIMO external antennas
    • Wi-Fi 5 concurrent dual-band, with 2×2 external antennas
  • Dual redundant, hot-swappable AC PSUs
  • Remote management through a Baseboard Management Controller (BMC)

Accton is currently working with software partners to develop the latest security software that includes AI technology and fully utilizes the SAF6101I Edge Server’s hardware resources. The high-performance computing power of the system enables real-time AI analysis of malicious traffic, automatically blocking suspicious packets, warning of potential network threats, and actively preventing the spread of hacker attacks. The innovative AI-enabled software can even dynamically adapt to identify and prevent zero-day attacks that exploit unknown vulnerabilities in the network.

The SAF6101I Edge Server is an ideal hardware platform for new AI-based network security software, delivering agility and high throughput with reduced CAPEX and OPEX, offering a comprehensive solution for increasing network security challenges.

The Intel® Xeon® D-1700 processor provides the SAF6101I Edge Server with high levels compute, ethernet, security allowing the SAF6101I Edge Server to flexibly address a variety of uses cases including but not limited to Secure Access Service Edge (SASE), a network architecture that combines VPN and SD-WAN capabilities with cloud-native security functions. In addition, the SAF6101I Edge Server can be used as a universal Customer Premises Equipment (uCPE), integrating multiple (previously physical) functions virtually.

Melody Chiang, Senior Vice President of Product Development & Management at Accton said, “The Accton SAF6101I Edge Server is a high-performance system that includes a number of flexible options that are ideal for security applications. The open platform also includes the latest Intel technologies and can deliver high throughput for even the most demanding applications.”

“The Intel® Xeon® D-1700 processor features built-in hardware acceleration for cryptography, compression and machine learning inference, making it well suited to the needs of diverse and converged workloads at the enterprise edge,” said Bob Ghaffari, vice president and general manager, Enterprise and Cloud Networking Division at Intel. “Solutions from Accton and others will give enterprises powerful new options to enhance the agility and security of their networks.”
