Accton Filmed the "Flipped Care" Short Film Series to Promote the Concept of "Independent Support" for the Elderly
According to statistics, the average disability time for a person is 9 years, accounting for about 1/8 of life. The society in Taiwan is about to become super-aged in 2025 (people over 65 years of age account for 20% of the total population). The demand for caretakers will become more and more insufficient in the future. In recent years, the problems of elderly care in Taiwan have been frequently reported. The old concept of "meticulous care" needs to be reversed, and the concept of care must evolve with the times.
Concept of "Independent Support" Delivered through Short Films
At the beginning of 2020, Accton E-Charity visited Changtai Senior Citizens' School, established by the Senior Citizens Welfare and Protection Association of Yunlin County, and observed a different model of caretaking from normal long-term care institutions. The stereotype of traditional long-term care institutions has been overturned and the concept of "independent support" has been implemented. In order to further make the public more aware of the concept of "independent support," Accton E-Charity and Changtai Senior Citizens' School have jointly filmed five short films, which were officially promoted in February 2021.
We hope that through the cases of the elderly in the videos, the public can witness the practice of the concept of "independent support" and its positive impact on the elderly, and overturn the public's perception of traditional elderly institutions. Only upon the redefinition of the meaning of "care" by the society, will people realize the concept of "independent support," and through the promotion of changing the old caretaking model, can elders in Taiwan truly enjoy respect, equality, and being treated friendly in their twilight years.
The "independent support" concept was introduced to Taiwan from Japan by the CEO of Changtai Senior Citizens' School, Lin Chin-Li. The core concept is to provide care through the three noes: "no diaper, no bed rest, no restraint."
Primary care philosophy: Allow the elderly to live the life they want, and let the service provider and their families learn and grow at the same time. Taking care of the elderly is not only on the "physical level", but it also entails the comprehensive care of "social and cultural levels" and "spiritual satisfaction." To improve the ability of the elderly to live independently, and to live freely with dignity in their twilight years.
