Children with multiple physical and mental disabilities at St. Anne’s Home in Taipei were unable to go out and engage in activities due to COVID-19. After waiting for two years, preparations were made to help colleagues better understand the children and foster closer connections. The teachers at St. Anne’s Home were specifically asked to assist in preparing a list that matches colleagues with children and provides details about each child’s characteristics and needs.
Companionship deepens emotions
By noon, mealtime becomes a major operation, with utensils and cutting tools placed on the table. The dedicated teachers swiftly and skillfully cut the food into small pieces and grind it into a paste to ensure the children can easily consume their meals without any obstacles. The meticulous procedure brings joy to the children, and they happily enjoy their lunch. After the meal, there is a short break, during which volunteers assist the teachers in pushing wheelchairs to the restroom for diaper changes. In the afternoon, the children receive mission cards and move between floors to solve challenges, working together to complete their missions.

Let disabilities no longer be labels. Inclusivity involves you and me.
After the event, colleagues shared that although the children were not little anymore in terms of their actual age, their eyes and conversations still reflected the innocence and loveliness of children. Even though the children face physical challenges, they have not lost their smiles. It is hoped that these children will have more opportunities to explore the world, and there is a strong desire for more people to come in, get to know, and understand them. Let’s collaborate to create an environment of comprehension, regard, parity, and inclusivity, where disabilities are no longer labels.
