Accton Technology, through its two foundations—Accton Cultural and Educational Foundation and Accton Art Foundation—collaborated with the “JGD Island” team from Hsin-Chu Community College in Hsinchu City to host a series of “Delight in Reading, Sound, and Water” events. These activities took place in October and November 2024 on Hsinchu City’s only river island, Jiugang Island. Integrating ecological exploration, environmental education, and art appreciation, the events invited Accton employees and their families to explore Jiugang Island, deepening their connection with the local community.

Cultural and Environmental Tour to Strengthen Community Ties

  • In-depth Exploration of Jiugang Island
Through the Jiugang Island walking tour, we led our colleagues out of the office and onto the land of Jiugang Island. We explored the island’s natural landscapes and historical sites on foot, immersing ourselves in the unique environment and cultural heritage of Jiugang Island.
  • Exploring the Nature of Touqian River
The activity included guided tours that helped colleagues understand the history, geography, and intertidal ecology of the Touqian river. At the same time, the importance of Touqian river to the people of Hsinchu and the ecological challenges facing the outlet of Touqian river were also discussed in depth to enhance colleagues’ understanding of local environmental issues.
  • Environmental Book Introducing and Donation
The Accton Cultural and Educational Foundation called on colleagues to donate books to the Jiugang Island Book House, supporting the community’s efforts to promote reading and environmental education, while injecting new resources into the book house. During the event, guided readings and discussions on environmental issue books were held, raising environmental awareness among colleagues and local residents, and fostering increased attention and dialogue on environmental topics to collectively protect the natural environment.

Supporting Local Culture and Art Activities through Action

  • Support for Local Arts Festival
The Accton Art Foundation supported the 2024 Jiugang Island “Touqian River Arts Festival,” held along the Touqian river. The event invited several local Hsinchu bands, aiming to raise public awareness of Jiugang Island’s cultural history and ecological environment through music performances, while also fostering a sense of community identity.
  • Support for Soundscape Art Creation
Local residents and soundscape artists from Jiugang Island have created the “Thousand Miles Series” and “Windward Series” with driftwood, combining soundscape and local culture to showcase the unique landscape of Jiugang Island.Accton Arts Foundation especially supported the “Windward Series” artworks. Through soundscape art, participants can enjoy the natural landscape of Jiugang Island and at the same time immerse themselves in the auditory experience of the sounds of tides, running water and tidal crabs in the intertidal zone, which will bring them both visual and auditory experiences.

 Community Connection and Sustainable Collaboration

Through walking tours, ecological experience guides, and support for music and art activities, Accton colleagues gained a deeper understanding of the surrounding natural environment and established a strong connection with the local community. We look forward to creating sustainable, mutually beneficial value with the local community in the future.

About Jiugang Island

Jiugang Island is a river island located near the mouth of the Touqian river. During the Qing Dynasty, it was known as “Chuchien Harbor” and was once listed among Taiwan’s top five ports. Due to siltation, the harbor’s prosperity faded over the past half-century, and it is now home to only a few hundred residents in a small fishing village. In recent years, through the efforts of the community college and local cultural and historical workers, the island has focused on preserving its cultural heritage and architectural memories, hosting ecological exploration activities, and learning about the Touqian river. These efforts have accumulated local energy, helping to preserve a space for a slower-paced lifestyle amidst the rapid development of Hsinchu Science Park.

Achivement

Two ecological guide and cultural experience events were held, with a total of 44 participants.
43 books were donated.
The 2024  Jiugang Island “Touqian River Arts Festival” attracted 450 participants.
