Metro Community Development Corporation (MCDC) is a nonprofit organization in Massachusetts USA which helps improve the lives of low income and senior residents. With the generous financial support of Edgecore for the last five years, MCDC has grown to serve over 1,400 people each year with free programs that enable them to manage their financial resources and housing, improve their health and wellbeing, reduce hoarding behaviors, and increase job skills. MCDC works in partnership with towns and social services agencies to help residents improve their self-sufficiency and make enduring life changes.

Providing Financial Education, Coaching and Support to Low Income Families
MCDC offers financial fitness services to low income families and seniors including financial education, budgeting, long-term individual mentoring and coaching, tax preparation and guidance on public benefits, career planning, emergency interest-free loans and senior wellness programs. MCDC staff members provide one-to-one financial coaching to each individual, often over a period of years, to help the individual manage their financial resources, improve job skills, transition to home ownership, and acquire new skills to meet their goals. Tax preparation services provide about $500,000 in benefits each year to individuals by allowing them to access financial support through the US and state tax systems.

Assisting Families with Hoarding Behaviors
Hoarding is a behavioral health concern that affects up to 5% of the population, especially seniors, veterans and those who have experienced trauma, and often results in health problems, loss of housing and social isolation. MCDC offers the ClearPath Program, the largest therapeutic clutter program in New England, that assists individuals and families to improve home safety, retain their housing, and maintain social connections. ClearPath provides education, peer group support, individual coaching and in-home services. MCDC also trains public housing managers, municipal workers, attorneys, and medical professionals to recognize hoarding issues and provide the appropriate referrals and support.
