Together in Dialogue and Diversity: Building an Inclusive Society with Migrant Workers

Accton is committed to upholding human rights and fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace.  Beyond providing comprehensive care and protection for migrant workers each year, we took a step further in 2024 to deepen internal engagement.

Through the Accton Arts Foundation, we launched interactive art initiatives that invited our migrant workers to share and listen to one another’s stories—building mutual understanding and connection. Externally, Accton E-Charity partnered with One-Forty to support campus outreach programs focused on migrant worker issues. Through these efforts, we aim to encourage dialogue and meaningful exchange across cultures and communities.

Starting from Life Stories: An Initial Practice of Dialogue with Migrant Workers

In 2024, the Accton Arts Foundation launched the “Migrant Voices Project,” initiating two pilot workshops.

The first session invited 14 young Filipino night-shift migrant workers to participate in activities such as life-mapping, visual storytelling, and personal story sharing. These activities helped foster mutual understanding and cultural exchange.

Building on the experience from the first, the second session incorporated more interactive elements—including group discussions on similarities and differences, and conversations around Taiwanese culture and workplace observations—enriching the depth of dialogue.

Though brief, these sincere interactions revealed the rich and diverse backgrounds of our migrant partners. Some had worked as offshore fishers, administrative officers in Dubai trading firms, or hotel housekeepers in Macau. Their stories not only broadened the perspectives of fellow participants but also gave our staff deeper insight into the multifaceted identities of migrant workers.

We also noticed the curiosity many migrant participants had about Taiwanese culture. Through friendly questions and open conversation, both sides were able to explore cultural differences and reflect on everyday norms often taken for granted.

These two early art-based engagements highlighted the high level of interest and creative potential among our migrant participants. They also prompted our staff to reflect on their own relationships and communication with migrant coworkers

This aligns with the two core aspirations of the project: one, that all employees—regardless of nationality—can access arts and cultural experiences in a voluntary, comfortable setting, with opportunities to express themselves and be heard; and that art can serve as a medium to spark dialogue and meaningful connection.

Bridging Boundaries: Introducing Migrant Worker Topics to Campus

In addition to cultivating a multicultural and inclusive workplace internally, Accton also engages in cross-sector collaborations to extend migrant worker advocacy into schools.

In 2024, Accton E-Charity partnered with One-Forty to launch the Migrant Worker Campus Advocacy Project. Aligned with the Curriculum Guidelines of 12-Year Basic Education, particularly the core competencies in multiculturalism and global understanding, this initiative seeks to bring empathy and intercultural awareness into the classroom. Activities included school lectures, teacher empowerment workshops, curriculum kits, and a pen pal program—offering multiple pathways for teachers and students to engage with migrant worker issues and practice social empathy.

  • Migrant Worker School Lectures
The project reached a wide range of campuses, from elementary to university levels—including experimental schools. A total of 12 school lectures were held in 2024, engaging over 440 students and educators in meaningful conversations about the cultural differences and lived experiences of migrant workers.

Teachers’ Feedback

“The resources are incredibly helpful and abundant.”

“This gave me new ways to imagine teaching about migrant experiences.”
“I spent half a semester focusing on migrant issues. My students learned to empathize, moving from stereotypes to genuine curiosity—these emotions are invaluable.” — Teacher at Bo-Ai Elementary School

  • My Migrant Worker Pen Pal Program
Beyond classroom learning, the project also created space for real, personal connections. Through the My Migrant Worker Pen Pal Project, students across Taiwan wrote letters to eight migrant pen pals, opening up heartfelt dialogue. Over 116 educators participated, involving 3,420 students, and 1,922 handwritten letters were exchanged between students and migrant workers.

In 2024, the project brought migrant worker advocacy into 62 schools, reaching over 25,000 teachers and students through a series of engaging and impactful activities. These included 12 school lectures, 2 empowerment workshops for educators, the development of a downloadable curriculum kit, an online migrant worker photography exhibition, and the distribution of 100 Pen Pal Project Kits. Behind each number is a reflection of Accton E-Charitys commitment to fostering a society of inclusion, empathy, and cross-cultural understanding.

As the world grows more connected, Accton holds fast to its original belief—to create a workplace where diversity is embraced and inclusion is lived every day. Beyond our walls, we continue to bring migrant worker voices and stories into the heart of society, because we believe every story matters. Between cultures, there is no absolute right or wrong—only the choice to understand or to turn away. When we open the door to dialogue with empathy and respect, we begin to see one another more clearly. And, it is through these small, sincere exchanges that we move closer to a world where everyone feels seen, heard, and truly included.
