Four Achievements of Resource Regeneration Initiatives at Accton’s Zhunan Plant

As the earth’s resources are limited, we must consider the limits of resource utilization while pursuing economic development. Changing the use of resources from a traditional linear model to a recycling model of “resource regeneration” is the key to minimizing the depletion of resources, and it is also one of the most important aspects for enterprises to practice sustainable development. In response to this trend, Accton’s Zhunan plant has not only continued to promote waste reduction, but also actively introduced four waste reduction and resource recycling projects in 2024, including: enhancing categorization to improve recycling effectiveness, and implementing a number of waste upgrading and reuse programs, which have yielded results. This demonstrates Accton’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
Waste Chemical Empty Drum Recycled by Crushing Into Plastic Pellets
Our Zhunan plant has set a goal to implement the “Waste Chemical Empty Drums Recycling” project in 2024. The project cooperates with a recycling company to clean and crush the waste chemical drums and turn them into recycled plastic materials. It can be reintroduced into the plastic production cycle, reducing resource waste and achieving the goal of plastic reduction. In the past, the waste chemical drums at the Zhunan plant were mainly treated by “incineration”, with a reuse rate of 0%; after the implementation of this project, as of September 2024, the reuse rate of waste chemical drums has reached 100%, which has produced around 2 tons of recycled plastic pellets.
Recycling of scrap steel sheet frames into new steel sheets
In addition to the recycling of empty waste chemical drums, the Zhunan plant’s “Scrap Steel Plate Recycling” project has also achieved good results. Previously, scrap steel plates were treated by “recycling”. Since 2024, the Zhunan plant has cooperated with contracted steel plate manufacturers to remanufacture reusable scrap steel plate frames into new steel plates, which not only reduces the energy consumption of the remanufacturing process, but also reduces the mining of raw metal materials. As of October 2024, approximately 346 pieces of steel sheet frames have been delivered.
Introduction of “Aluminum Separation” for Waste Aluminum Foil Bags
Aluminum foil bags are also one of the common waste items. Promoting their reduction and reuse will also help reduce the total amount of waste disposed. Before, waste aluminum foil bags were mainly entrusted to manufacturers for physical treatment and then incinerated. Starting from 2024, the Zhunan Plant cooperated with the commissioned manufacturers to direct the waste aluminum foil bags into the aluminum separation process for separation. As of October 2024, a total of 20.8 tons of waste aluminum foil bags were removed, producing 3.1 tons of recycled plastic pellets and 17.7 tons of high-purity aluminum.
Material Packaging Reuse Measures
Accton not only joins hands with our supply chain partners to reduce carbon emissions, but also promotes the cooperation model of “Waste Recycling and Reuse” with some of our suppliers. In July 2024, the Zhunan plant redesigned the “Material Packaging Recycling Process”. After removing the packing cartons, the material personnel of the plant will place them on pallets and stack them; when suppliers deliver the goods, they will collect the pallets, pack cartons together and reuse them in their plants. This practice has transformed the previous practice of dismantling packaging materials and turning them into waste into a mode of resource reuse, whereby the packaging cartons can be directly reused and their lifespan extended, thereby effectively reducing the consumption of resources. As of September 2024, the weight of cartons entering the recycling process reached 830 kilograms.
